Department of Floriculture & Landscaping

Faculty :

1. Dr. (Mrs.) Sasikala Beura : Assoc. Professor & HEAD and Director Tissue Culture

Achievement of the department :

The Department was created on 29th October, 2009. After creation of the department, four students took admission in the first batch. One of them left for job after first semester and rest three completed their post graduation successfully in the year 2011. The students worked on following research projects for their thesis work.

1. Name of the Student : Ms. Tanmayee Sasani
Title of the thesis : FLOWERING REGULATION OF IN VITRO RAISED HYBRID GERBERA UNDER SHADE NET
Thesis advisor : Dr. Sashikala Beura

2. Name of the Student : Ms. Soumya Priyadarshini Satapathy
Title of the thesis : INTEGRATED NUTRIENT MANAGEMENT IN GLADIOLUS
Thesis advisor : Dr. C. R. Mohanty

3. Name of the Student : Ms. Punyatoya Priyambada
Title of Thesis : EFFECT OF INORGANIC & ORGANIC SOURCES OF NUTRIENTS AND BIOFERTILISERS ON GROWTH & FLOWERING OF GOLDEN ROD (Solidago canadensis)
Thesis advisor : Dr. C.R. Mohanty

Salient research findings:
  • Disbudding followed by application of Neospirine and GA3 at 100ppm concentration could successfully manipulate the growth and flowering behavior of Gerbera so as to increase the production of flowers with better vase life.
  • Application of 75% RDF (100-50-60 kg NPK/ha) along with vermicompost @ 5t/ha and biofertilizers i.e. Azospirillum and PSB at 1:1 ratio @ 10 kg/ha resulted in maximum net return of Rs 2,77,504.00/ha with highest cost: benefit ratio.
  • Application of 50% RDF (150-100-100 kg NPK/ha)in combination with FYM (10t/ha) and biofertilizers - Azospirillum, Azotobacter and PSB at 1:1:1 ratio @ 10.0 kg/ha resulted in maximum net return of Rs. 1,61,426.00 with highest cost: benefit ratio of 3.87 which can be recommended to the flower growers in and around Bhubaneswar as a healthy nutrient management practices in Golden rod for getting higher return with out deteriorating the soil health.
